A Note of Thanks

The 90th Anniversary Picnic Committee would like to thank everyone who helped to contribute in any way to the successful picnic held Sunday, August 8th at the Rajah Complex. Anyone who did not attend missed a wonderful time of food, fun and fellowship. A special thank you to Clover Farms Dairy for providing drinks; Anna Mae Adams and Denise Rapp for crafts; Anna Mae Adams, the Candy Committee and The Fastnacht Committee for monetary contributions; Lynda Scholl, Lillian Rentschler and Pastor Rich for planning the outdoor service; the Brass Choir for providing music; and a special thank you to Dana Kase, Rory Ulrich, Jim Holcombe and Matt Burkart for "flippin" burgers and hotdogs. More than 120 people were in attendance. A good time was had by all. Also a special thank you to our Lord and Savior for providing us with one of the most beautiful summer days ever on record. Plans are already in the making for an annual picnic next year! We are truly a blest congregation.
Yours in Christ
Sue Holcombe and the 90th Anniversary Committee

P.S. A special thanks from the congregation to Sue Holcombe and the committee for all their hard work.

Reading Moravian Church Picnic 2005

The word picnic actually comes from the French word, pique-nique, meaning "a fashionable social entertainment" in which each guest brings a contribution to the feast. In other words, pique-nique was a fancy way of saying "potluck." The tradition of the potluck lives on at a good many of today's picnics, but the word picnic has developed into a much broader meaning, encompassing virtually any portable meal.

While the 18th century French and English aristocracy enjoyed servant-attended, formal picnics with chairs and table settings of fine china and crystal, modern picnics are usually more casual affairs, (although there's no reason why you can't break the rules). This year's Reading Moravian Church picnic was very casual in a wonderful suburban setting located at the Rajah Shrine Complex near the Lake Ontelaunee in Berks County, Pennsylvania.

Approximately 75 friends and members of Reading Moravian Church attended this special "Mission Love Feast Service" followed with food, fun and fellowship. The weather was a typical August-like day, high 80 degrees, muggy, and a little cloudy. There was a constant breeze that kept the temperature pleasurable. Our Brass Choir provided the prelude. Pastor Barbara and Pastor Glenvil led us in worship. The Senior Choir sang wonderful anthems during the love feast. Pastor Glenvil delivered the sermon on missions and our call to missions. Pastor Glenvil was very inspiring and we hope to see him again soon.

A thank you should be mentioned to everyone who attended. With "you" this event would not be possible. Thank you to all members of the picnic committee for helping to organize and direct. (It is a thankless job and you guys did a great job.) Thanks to Butch & Donna Trautman and Trautman Country Catering for preparing and serving the delicious meal. Thanks to the Shriners for allowing us the use of the Complex. Thanks to Clover Farms Dairy for providing the drinks. (Thanks, Jim and Sue!)

The fun day included horse shoes, volleyball, water balloons, bingo, and lots of laughing. We are looking forward to next year. If you have any suggestions on how to improve this event for next year, or if you want to be a part of the committee, please let Pastor Barbara know. We hope to have more people next year for more fun.
